It can usually only be felt as one notch and then you have to physically return the steering wheel to centre. The steering when it is working well is just fine and a pleasure to use but when its not working well it can best be described as notchy. I honestly cant see the problem being mechanical unless there is a ball bearing somewhere in the system that has developed a flat. Sometimes and usually after the car has driven a few miles the steering will not return to centre after a tight turn to the right.
